Below you will find some of the makerspace activities we have done in the library. In my library, a makerspace activity is something that involves a hands-on activity that engages the mind critically and creatively. We have a designated table up front with rotating community activities. I've highlighted those as well as the make-and-take kits we feature as well.
You Can Do the Cube
If you have not explored You Can Do the Cube's cube lending program yet, I highly recommend this incredibly popular activity. This company will lend you a set of cubes and give you a mosaic template to complete the mosaic. You can download the mosaic templates from their website. PRINTABLES/RESOURCES |
Origami Bookmarks
I featured this in a make-and-take kit, and they were very popular! I got enough supplies so every freshman that came through for a library orientation could take one, and they enjoyed using the makerspace with this activity. You will need origami paper in brown, black, blue, and yellow. PRINTOUTS/RESOURCES |
Book Page Snowflakes
A simple passive makerspace activity where students can help you decorate the library for winter. Provide book pages, instructions on how to make a snowflake, and an area to display their snowflake when they are done. PRINTOUTS/RESOURCES

Valentine's Day Cards
This card looks a lot more complicated than it is, and the effect is wonderful. To prep this, you will need to gather cards for the students, a heart shape (or cookie cutter) and punch small holes with a needle to make the heart shape. See example picture HERE PRINTOUTS/RESOURCES
